FAVS in the Kitchen

Below are a list of my Favorite Kitchen Accessories and Appliances. I have found all of these items to be helpful while on the GAPS diet.   Click on the name to find out where you can purchase yours.

Dehydrator:
This comes in handy for making beef jerky, dried fruit snacks, fruit rolls, drying nuts and making zucchini chips.

Stick Blender/Immersion Blender:
I use this to blend up all my kids veggies. It is a good way to get your kids to drink broth. I am not sure how easy it is for the rest of you, but my kids refuse to drink broth. So, the way I get them to drink it is by blending their vegetables up and adding the broth to the blended veggies. We call is their "Dinosaur food" because dinosaurs eat green stuff. ;-) We make is a little thicker than soup with the sauerkraut juice and they love it!

Food Processor:
This is my favorite appliance! We use this for just about everything you can thinking of: Nut butters, almond pie crust, banana bread, slicing veggies or fruits for the dehydrator, blending up meats, etc.

Juicer:
This we use every morning. For how we got our kids to drink fresh pressed veggie juices, click here.

Cast Iron Pots and Pans:
We try to do all our cooking in cast iron, except for the stainless steel stock pot we use for making broths. You can get these at most thrift shops and Aldis, once a year around Christmas time, sells a good selection of each.

Stainless Steel Pot:
I use this daily for making stock.

Lemon/Lime Squeezer:
I use this to make lemonade with Cod liver oil every day for my kids. It our secret way of getting our kids to take their Cod liver oil and it works like a charm! For the recipe click here.

Lemon zester/garlic "shaver":
I think technically it is called lemon zester, but I also use it to crush my garlic over the soups before serving. It's my "Rachel Ray" trick that works so well. I also use it to put nutmeg in some of my dishes. I bought mine at the dollar store.
